The New Glasgow STV Channel

STV announced today that there will be a new addition to Scottish television, that's right, STV Glasgow. The new channel is to debut on the 2nd of June, 2014. This is a very exciting time for the people of Glasgow, they will have a channel with a strong sense of community, a channel made by the people of Glasgow, for the people of Glasgow. Don't worry if you're not in the city though, you'll still be able to tune in from all around Scotland.

The channel is in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University to help get more young students involved in live TV, especially those studying relevant degrees such as journalism. It is certainly an exciting time to be a student at Caley!

The channel will be on air from midday to midnight and will involve "an entertaining mix of news and features with a live and interactive format that will encourage viewers to get involved." according to STV. Not to mention a new show will accompany the channel's welcome to television, this is The Riverside Show hosted by Jennifer Reoch (Former Miss Scotland) and Clyde 1's Radio DJ David Farrell. They hope to get Glasgow's public interacting with the show and for it to hopefully catch on as a classic, popular show around the whole of Scotland.

For more info on this exciting new channel, head on over to the STV Website.

1st Step Into Virtual Reality - The Oculus Rift

A new piece of technology has recently boomed with video game developers all across the globe because of it having the first massive step into realistic and practical virtual reality. Of course, I'm talking about the Oculus Rift!

The Rift is fairly lightweight head/facewear which allows a player to look around into a different world and interact seamlessly. Because it is so easy to become visually absorbed in the game world when using the Rift, it has had great popularity with the horror game genre so far with games like Slender: The Arrival, Lost in the Rift and Linger. It hasn't reached the public market as of yet as it is still in development, however developers can purchase versions of the Rift to test it and try their hand at making Oculus-Compatible games.

The Rift started with a great idea which was pitched on Kickstarter, because of the popularity and interest in the idea, more than enough money was pledged by fans to begin developing the Rifts we see being used by some developers today. Currently the Oculus team are working on being able to lean left, right, forward and back on the Rift for the next release version.

Hopefully in the not so late future, the Oculus Rift will have a lot of both Indie and Triple-A titles in the pipeline and the breakthrough piece of technology in virtual reality will become commercially available to the public.

If you're a developer, you can purchase your own Oculus Development kit by visiting their website at: http://www.oculusvr.com/

Below you can watch the Youtuber Pewdiepie playing an indie title for the Oculus Rift known as Linger, a horror game. (No gore, don't worry!)
